Harrogate Residential Renovation & Redesign

Our roles - Design | Planning | Construction | Project management

This extensive renovation and redesign project in Harrogate was carried out over three carefully phased stages, transforming both the interior and exterior of an existing property.

Phase 1 involved refurbishing the existing garage and apartment, allowing the clients to comfortably reside on-site while the primary construction work on the main house was underway. This early phase set the groundwork for the larger transformation, ensuring minimal disruption during the following phases.

Phase 2 focused on redesigning the existing house, as the original design did not align with the clients' tastes or accommodate modern living needs. Working closely with Grace and Morris Architects, the ground floor was reimagined into a large, open-plan kitchen, living, dining, and snug area, featuring an open fire for a sense of warmth and ambiance. The centerpiece of this open-plan space is a handcrafted kitchen and wine wall, strategically positioned to create a stunning visual connection to the main entrance of the home.

To achieve this open layout, significant structural alterations were required. These included supporting the existing concrete beam and block floors, as well as the removal of the chimney breast, with the installation of large steel beams and newly formed structural piers.

Throughout the entire property, every room was refurbished, with the ground floor being replaced to accommodate underfloor heating. All existing windows and doors were upgraded with handmade sliding sash timber windows to complement the home's character. Bespoke fitted furniture was designed and installed in each room, providing tailored storage solutions that meet the client's specific needs. The bathrooms were also overhauled with high-end fixtures, with the master suite featuring bookmatched marble tiles, ensuring a luxurious finish.

Phase 3 extends to the exterior works, where a new greenhouse and tractor shed are being constructed. The grounds also feature a kitchen garden with 21 raised beds, a dipping pond, and landscaped gardens framed by traditional dry stone walls. The driveway, completed with its own compass detail, adds a distinctive finishing touch to this thoughtful and carefully executed renovation.
