Our clients were a busy family who briefed us to replace a ramshackle collection of outbuildings with a contemporary kitchen and dining extension. They wanted to open up the rear of the property to create a better relationship with the garden and provide easy access for their children to play outside, within easy view of the kitchen.
We used the existing garden walls and added a floating cantilevered roof inspired by American case study houses. Sliding doors give easy access and visibility into the garden via the terrace.
Keeping some of the original openings in the potting shed - one of which was a coal shoot - added a playful touch while acting as a link to the new extension’s original purpose.
The completed extension houses a sleek family kitchen that feels light and airy thanks to the expansive sliding doors and the large slot roof light, connecting effortlessly with the garden.
